Two girls there are: within the house
One sits; the other, without.
Daylong a duet of shade and light
Plays between these.
“Two Sisters of Persephone”, Sylvia Plath, 1956
At Baylor, we dedicate our final semester to developing our own mini collection. My collection centered around the development of Sylvia Plath’s mental health issues throughout her 20s, and how this development was highlighted in her poetry. Colorful, light-weight chiffons, silk, and tulle fade away into darker, heavier satins and even upholstery fabrics, symbolizing Sylvia’s innocence descending into a maddening depression.
